Casey + Topaz - Distress

Happy Halloween everyone! Sorry this isn't really holiday themed or anything... but it IS me updating which is surprisingly spooky and rare lately, so it still kind of fits, right?? 8D *HIT* Lulz, I tried.

So I came to an interesting realization some months back when I was browsing ideas over a couple I should draw. Despite the fact these two, Topaz (the perturbed feline) and Casey (the undaunted hyena/warthog hybrid) have actually been drawn near annually (which compared to most of the characters of my very -expansive- cast isn't too bad ) themselves respectively, I haven't actually given them a -decent- couple piece in over half a decade 8|

Sounds like a good excuse as any! And personally I enjoy the two as a couple given their very involved and rich backstory. Which you are now about to read about, so brace yourselves *SLAPPED* Seriously though, if you want to get the flesh of the story of this picture, it sets it up, I swear XD IT'S HOW I ROLL, MAN.

Casey and Topaz have known each other since they were super young blushbunnyc3.deviantart.com/ar… His mother and her father were both single teenage parents - hence both understood the isolated feeling of an absent and unknown parent (Casey's father doesn't know about him, and Topaz's mother took off as soon as she was born).

They grew up together and bonded as firm friends, almost like siblings - until the whole puberty thing eventually caught up with them and they spent the better part of their teen years trying to avoid admitting stronger feelings for one another that is XP But they get past it and end up pursuing a relationship in the end~

Anyway, so they've been dating for maybe a couple years or so, when Casey discovers he has two half brothers by his unknown father and they end up deciding to set out, both to possibly find out about their estranged parent and to aid in the underground fight against certain forces that have been terrorizing their world for some time (that's a whole other plot I won't get into for spoiler reasons). And of course, being the considerate and protective boyfriend,  Casey wants Topaz to stay behind

Topaz, being the fierce and stubborn little spitfire she is (and equally protective of her partner), refuses and insists on coming along and fighting at his side She's by no means a pushover or liability; she holds her own alongside Casey and his brothers (she doesn't particularly like them though ). So they make up their own strange little rebel team of misfits so to speak.

But finally getting to the subject of this picture!!  (About damn time I know, sob) So one day the group is on some sort of run or patrol or some such, when Casey (unofficial leader) notices that Topaz has fallen behind. He lets the others go on ahead and goes back to find her - she's hunkering on the ground looking unsettled amoung other things. When he asks if she's okay, she moodily tries to brush him off and tells him to go on ahead. But he knows something is off and refuses to until she tells him what's wrong.

Again, Topaz desperately tries to make him leave - and ends up throwing up in front of him D: By then she's pretty angry and embarrassed (she actually doesn't know what's wrong with her at that point - she's just supremely humiliated at being seen weak and vulnerable, even by her boyfriend. She's a very tough and independent woman, so that sort of moment is very humbling and mortifying to her).

After seeing that, far from being repelled or backing off, Casey is insistent on taking her to a clinic, stating she's obviously not well. Topaz, now a tad wobbly and nauseous, isn't fighting him off as strongly (but notice her still trying to maintain some dignity in how she's resisting some of his concern). Casey's totally not deterred by this though - he knows Topaz better  He knows he'll just have to go ahead and take her despite her protesting.

It's a good case of how these two work as a couple really. Topaz is a stubborn (but passionate) person, but Casey knows how to persevere. He knows Topaz's walls are purely defense mechanism and that she genuinely cares a lot for him. Lesser people would bail on that kind of attitude, but Casey (the eternal optimist in general/sees the best in everyone) knows she's worth the fight
